The 10 Very Best Things about Mallorca

I have a back log of posts I’d like to share with you, starting with Mallorca. It’s one of my fave places in the world and if you haven’t been there yet, here’s 10 very best things about the biggest island of the Balearics.

  1. You get the best of both worlds: beautiful beaches and mysterious mountains all on the same island. You get a great city vibe in Palma and the scenic, untouched countryside in the north, east and south. Luxurious hotels or rustic, quirky hostels, whatever your budget.

  2. It’s not a small island (555km coastline, north to south 100km , east to west 70km), so you’ll never get bored. Usually, after a weekend on an island you feel like you’ve seen everything , but in Mallorca, there’s always something more to discover.

  3. The neighbouring islands, Ibiza and Menorca, are on either end, if you really think you need more exploring. Take the ferry or short flight.

  4. Interesting property market. It’s not cheap, but there’s nice bargains in the east or among the mountains in the north and north west. Keep your eyes open, have a drive around and speak to local agents.

  5. Varied food. From traditional Spanish tapas, to other Mediterranean influenced cuisines and some solid German options. I really like the local vegan dish called tumbet, reminds me a bit of French ratatouille a bit mixed with Italian lasagne (without the pasta). Lots of local food spots to choose from, but also a choice of Michelin star places if you’ve got a more extravagant palate. Or a German schnitzel on the beach if you've had a long night... Palma also has a fantastic food scene, I love Santa Catalina especially and their quirky, often experimental restaurants serving dishes from all over the world.

  6. Palma is a robust capital, with offices, marina, plentiful cultural events and even a big film studio. So if you need your city fix or night on the town, you’ll get it in Mallorca without the need to go to mainland Spain.

  7. International crowd , local mallorquins, Germans, Brits, Russians …and Polish of course!

  8. 2 hours flight from UK and Germany also, that’s why it’s also so popular among the Germans & Brits.

  9. Good weather all year round, yes, gets to 0-5 ‘c in the winter…but that’s a hell of a lot better than most of continental Europe

  10. Mallorca has this fantastic great vibe and positive energy. That’s so important when you go somewhere and straight away you feel like at home. I had just that feeling ever since I did my first shoot there and keep coming back.
